Application Instructions

You must have at a minimum completed a BA or BS degree prior to admission. A minimum grade point average of B (3.0) for upper-division coursework is required. This GPA is calculated using all grades and credits completed after the semester in which the applicant has completed 60 semester hours of 90 quarters of course hours.

All candidates must have completed introductory and advanced coursework with a B or better in either biology, chemistry, neuroscience or physics or have demonstrated professional experience in a neuroscience-related field. To earn an MSc degree from the UF graduate school, students must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at the completion of this program.

It is also encouraged that you review the Online Neuroscience Masters Certificate Program as you may find this to be a better option for your situation. Faculty cannot advise students for which program they should apply, as several factors personal to the applicant can go into the decision (finances, schedule, etc.). It is important to review the information on our website in order to make an informed decision.

Due to the large number of inquiries we receive, we cannot offer an indication of how competitive your application will be before you apply. If you are confident that a completed application will demonstrate exceptional strength, we encourage you to submit your application.

A complete application packet consists of the following: (1-7)

• Create and Verify CollegeNET Account
• Complete all requested information on each page of the online application
  • Application Information: Select ‘Distance Education’ for Location of Intended Program
  • Program of Study: Select ‘College of Medicine’ followed by ‘Medical Sciences with a concentration in Biomedical Neuroscience’.
  • Additional Information: Select ‘Biomedical Neuroscience’ for Concentration. Leave Program Specialization and Department Contact blank
  • It is very important that you calculate your undergraduate upper-division GPA and enter it in the application.

  2) Personal Statement

  Explain your purpose for graduate study, including your current goals and reasons for selecting the Neuroscience Masters program. How will the Neuroscience Masters help you reach those goals? Your statement should be approximately 500-600 words or approximately 1 single-spaced page.

  3) Resume/CV

  Pertinent work history and/or research experience, publications, honors, etc.

  4) Two Letters of Recommendation

  Letters can be submitted by your recommenders through the online application or emailed by the recommender directly to the Academic Coordinator for the Online Neuroscience Masters, Melissa Naidu.

  Letters submitted through the online system take a few days to show up on your application. If a letter will be submitted after March 15, it should be emailed to the Academic Coordinator.

  Letters may come from professors, employers, colleagues, etc. Please avoid letters from family and close friends.

  5) Transcripts

  Upload unofficial transcripts from ALL institutions attended to your application. These will be used for the initial department review.

  Official transcripts from ALL institutions the applicant has attended are required if admitted to the program. If courses were transferred from one university to another, separate transcripts from both universities should be included. It may take several weeks for the Office of Admissions to match your official transcript to your application to be viewed by the department so it is best to upload unofficial copies for the initial review.

  If ordering electronic transcripts, please be aware that the Office of Admissions only accepts PDF transcripts from Parchment, National Clearing House, and eScript. The email address for receipt of these transcripts is TE@admissions.ufl.edu

  Posted physical transcripts can be sent to:

  Use this form to report courses you have taken in the subject areas indicated. You are not expected to have taken courses in all areas. The Admissions Committee will need to be able to find the courses you list on your submitted transcript(s).

  7) Neuroscience Assignment

  Applicants will be asked to complete a required assignment that will demonstrate their readiness for Graduate-level coursework. Applicants will be sent a link to the assignment and will have 30 minutes to complete it in one, uninterrupted sitting on a computer with internet access.

  The link will be sent to the email address you entered on your application. The email will come from the Academic Coordinator for the Online Neuroscience Masters, Melissa Naidu (michie@ufl.edu). If you do not receive the link at least one week after the application deadline, make sure to check your spam/junk folders and email the Academic Coordinator.

  No GRE is required.

  International Applicants
  All applicants, regardless of citizenship, must demonstrate English proficiency. English proficiency examination results, such as TOEFL and IELTS, are required for non-native English speakers.

  After Application Completion

  Your application package will be evaluated by MSc program faculty. We will consider all aspects of your application packet when making our decision. Admission decisions are made in the context of a holistic credential review process and will take into account your college transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and your personal statement. Decisions will be sent by May 31 for Fall applicants.
