Degree Requirements
Students must complete a prescribed program of study in their declared major, outlined in the Programs of Study chapter, including the distribution requirements for departmental, technical, general, and humanities/social sciences electives. The total number of credits required for graduation�varies from 120 to 132 credits in the four-year program, depending on the major.
The degree of bachelor of science from the School of Engineering is not awarded to any candidate who has earned fewer than 30 credits at Rutgers. Not more than 12 of the last 42 credits for the degree may be taken outside Rutgers.
The degree of bachelor of science from the School of Engineering is not awarded to any candidate whose university cumulative grade-point average is less than 2.000 or whose cumulative grade-point average in the major as designated by "M" prefixes is less than 2.000.
Graduation and Diploma.� Degrees are conferred by the university upon recommendation of the faculty only at annual commencement at the end of the spring semester. Students completing degree requirements in August or January may ask the registrar for a certificate attesting to their completion of degree requirements.� Students must complete a Diploma Application, and diplomas will be distributed by the Registrar's Office soon thereafter (in July for May grads, in October�for August grads, in March for January grads).
Graduation with Honors.� Honors are noted on the student's diploma and in the list of degrees and honors conferred. Students whose cumulative grade-point averages at the end of the senior year are at least 3.200, 3.400, or 3.650 may be graduated with "Honors," "High Honors," or "Highest Honors," respectively.
