New Jersey Positive Behavior Supports in Schools

New Jersey Positive Behavior Support in Schools (NJ PBSIS) is a collaboration between the New Jersey Department of Education Office of Special Education and The Boggs Center, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The mission of the NJ PBSIS initiative is to build capacity among New Jersey school personnel to implement a multi-tiered system of support for behavior, conduct, and social-emotional wellness that promotes equity for all students. NJ PBSIS is funded by I.D.E.A. Part B funds.

NJ PBSIS professional development is only available to schools and districts that have been selected following a competitive application process. Application and enrollment in NJ PBSIS occurs on annual basis in the spring of each school year. Schools enrolled in the NJ PBSIS Network receive comprehensive professional development (training and coaching) at no cost. Training Provided to NJ PBSIS Network Schools

• NJ PBSIS delivers three multi-day training series that address the design and implementation of the tiered intervention system framework for conduct, behavior, and social and emotional wellness:
  • Universal prevention tier implementation planning (years 1 and 2)
  • Secondary tier system implementation planning (year 2)
  • Tertiary tier system implementation planning (year 3)
  • Implementing class-level prevention practices
  • Re-framing the discipline process and procedures

  Technical Assistance Provided to NJ PBSIS Network Schools

  • Remote and in-person coaching and technical assistance provided to school and district personnel in schools and districts that are enrolled in the NJ PBSIS Network.
  • Coaching and technical assistance support the translation of training content to implementation and are provided in concert with each training series
